So, what’s cool among cats in 2025? Well, a big trend is indoor/outdoor cat parenting. Historically, we’ve seen one or the other, but humans are leaning into supervised or restricted outdoor time. It’s important to be safe, though, if you want to have your feline friend take on the outdoors.
Keeping Tabs of Your Tabby
A huge trend we’re seeing is the catio! This enclosed space allows your kitty to get some beloved outdoor time without flight risk. Popular retail sites even have a kit for a 57 square-foot enclosure!
If you’d rather let your feline roam free, I suggest a couple yard precautions. For starters, you can set up an “animal deterrent” or fence-topper around your yard’s perimeter to ensure no escape artists. Make sure there aren’t any plants nearby that would prove unsafe!
Consider supervised recess rather than full-time access. These furry friends are clever and nimble! Any tree might be their next trick. This also makes sure any other animals in your area don’t make unexpected visitors. A squirrel-cat standoff could be quite the fright.
If your little friend is going to roam free, make sure they have a collar on – maybe with a bell for easier supervision. In addition to a collar, you could add an AirTag. Some collars come with a little slot for a tracking device. This can help keep your pet’s location known, just in case.

More and more, we are seeing humans trying to cut back on their waste and be sustainable. Being a pet can be a tricky addition for an environmentalist, but not impossible! Some quick and easy steps include researching where your cat’s food is coming from and sourcing sustainable toys that will stand the test of time.
