Doggy Bucket List
Do you have a bucket list? Are you looking to be inspired by some pet-friendly activities in Colorado and beyond? These bucket list ideas have a little bit of everything; adventure, trying new things, taking it easy, and building community. This list is designed to inspire you – what are some things you’d love to do with your furry family members in their lifetime?
For the Adventurers
If you’re someone who loves exploring, try adding some pet-friendly pitstops into the mix! Of course, scenic sunrises are a popular bucket list item. For those local to Denver, a special sunrise and sunset location is Lookout Mountain, outside of Golden. These trails welcome leashed pets to join in on the scenic views.
Boulder’s Flatirons
Surely you’ve heard of the amazing Boulder Flatirons. These trails have something for every hiking difficulty, whether for your pet or you. There are so many ways to spend a hike in this amazing location, with different distances as well for whatever you are looking for.
Travelers
For the more advanced doggos, here are some unique destinations that are known for their Fido Friendliness according to The Most Dog-Friendly U.S. Cities to Visit. Noted first is Saint Augustine, Florida which is the oldest city in the continental U.S.!
Known for their welcoming of four-legged friends at historic landmarks, there’s plenty of beach-side restaurants with pet-friendly patios. Just make sure you bring plenty of water and pick your travel time accordingly since it can get hot, hot, hot!
For The Coastal Paw-lites
If you’re looking for a northeast getaway, may I suggest Portland, Maine? Complete with many nearby scenic hikes and beaches, this town is described as “QuintessentialNew England.” Having visited last year, I can attest that it is a cute quaint town with plenty to do, pups included.
Of course, if you aren’t looking to plan out anything too unique, may I suggest finding some pet-friendly camping? This is a great time to get outdoors and explore somewhere new without the pressure of accommodations and finding pet-friendly places, other than the campsite.
Trying Something New
Looking to spice things up? If you’ve got a brainiac and some time on your hands, consider working on some advanced tricks or pet agility courses. Not only will this be something you and your pet can do together, but it will also be good for both of your brains!
Rest & Recovery
If you and your pup prefer a night in, never fear! There are plenty of chill activities to partake in. Of course, there’s the age-old movie night. Consider picking a movie based on your dog. If nothing comes to mind, consider asking yourself, “what movie do I think my pup would like?”
For those crafty or cheffy households, try making something for your doggo. For inspiration, check out these Homemade Pet Treats recipes. Consider making your pet a tangential meal or treat to what you are cooking up for yourself!
Friends and Fur Family
Looking to level up your social life? Consider getting your four-legged family member in on the festivities! Maybe try a new pet-friendly place like a brewery or popular park. For those in Denver, check out Dog Days in Denver for inspo on fido-favorable activities.
What A Bucket List Can Do For Us
A bucket list can be a great reminder of how we want to spend our time. When we get bogged down in our monotonous routines, we forget about what gives us energy and brings us joy! Not to mention, it gives us the chance to try new things!
Science shows for humans and pets alike, it is good for us to build new neural pathways from trying new things which enrich our cognitive and emotional life. It also gives us a release of dopamine, giving us that feel-good sense of accomplishment. So, when’s the last time you and your pup did something new and exciting or set aside some sacred time for yourself?
